Latin Beat Magazine Review On Ritmo Masacote's Fantagious CD, Released May 2008

The Boston-based pianist/bandleader Joel "Masacote" Massicot returns with his latest production, Fantagious (a combination of fantasy and contagious), unveiling a fresh repertoire of Latin jazz scores infused with R&B and Caribbean nuances. Original scores are balanced with jazz standards such as Herbie Hancock's Maiden Voyage and Paul Desmond's Take Five, brilliantly arranged into the Ritmo Masacote-style of sounds and dance forms. On board in this musical journey are the Grammy-winning NYC percussionists Pablo "Chino" Nuñez and Luisito Quintero, along with a slew of Boston's finest, including Panagiotis Andreou (bass) and Michel Gonzalez (guitar). In the end, Joel and friends deliver an irresistible, percussive-driven project, which is hypnotic to listeners and toe-tapping to the swinging dancers. Among the standouts are Rumba Walk, Clowning Around, and Fantasia.
